My Heart Got Big

As I was telling her about one particular child I had met she was so moved by the story

Luke 7:11-17

Reference: When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.” (‭Luke‬ ‭7‬:‭13‬ NIV)

Explore: A friend of mine comes up with the coolest phrases. I will often adopt them and use them myself.

There was one time when I was telling her about a recent missions trip to the Philippines. I was telling her about the incredible people I had met and the amazing difference it makes when you sponsor a child.

As I was telling her about one particular child I had met she was so moved by the story she proclaimed, “Oh, my heart just got big.”

This was such a cute way of explaining she had been moved by the story. And it has stuck with me ever since.

Every time I am now moved by someone’s story I too will feel my heart go big.

Application: It seems that Jesus’ heart got big many times as He walked the earth. Luke 7 explains one of those times, when Jesus sees a widow’s dead son.

Sure, the Bible doesn’t use the same phrase as my friend, but it means the same thing. The great thing we see about Christ is that when His heart goes big He does something about it.

Never does the Bible say, ‘Jesus was moved and then He continued on His way.’ No, we always hear of Jesus’ emotion and then His direct action.

There are many things in our world that can move us. But let’s not just feel our heart go big, let’s be spurred on to act and make a difference.

Prayer: Lord, may we be moved to make a difference in Your world. Amen.

What makes your heart go big?
