Hearing Through Your Eyes

She is a truly remarkable character, but there are times when she struggles to communicate.

Psalm 17:1-15

Reference: I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer. (Psalm 17:6 NIV)

Explore: I’ve recently started watching a show about a girl who is deaf. She has a hearing aid to pick up a small amount of ambient noise, however, the rest of her communication is through sign language and lip reading.

She is a truly remarkable character, but there are times when she struggles to communicate. This happens mostly when lots of people are all talking at the same time or when people talk with their back to her.

While she speaks beautifully, the only way she can “hear” what others are saying is through her eyes. The show outlines some of her struggles and frustrations.

Application: There are times when I feel that I am hard of hearing when it comes to communicating with God. I try to understand His will for my life, but struggle to understand what I’m hearing.

But often it is the obstacles that I place between us, not that God is distant. The Psalmist asks the Lord to turn His ear to towards him and He truly does.

God is committed to hearing us, but how committed are we to turning to God? No matter what our situation is, may we all be inspired to look to God and connect with Him.

Prayer: Lord, You are the ultimate communicator and You promise to hear us. May we break down any barriers we have put up between us. Amen.

How do you feel your communication with God is going?
