Be Heard

It was hard to sing and almost impossible to hold a conversation

Psalm 38:1-22

Reference: I have become like one who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply. (Psalm 38:14 NIV)

Explore: Last week my poor sister lost her voice. She had caught a cold and it had led to laryngitis.
While she’s usually a fairly chatty person, she would try to hold a conversation but would just give up when it all became too hard. While charades were helpful, it only got us so far.

I totally understood where she was coming from. Having had nodules for 18 months, my voice has been husky to non-existent most of the time.

It was hard to sing, almost impossible to hold a conversation at a party, and I found myself bowing out of discussions just because I struggled to be heard.

Having no voice excludes you from so much.

Application:  While my sister and I experienced the challenge of not having a voice, we were fortunate not to lose our voice totally. With some time and medical assistance, we have been able to bring our voices back to full strength.

But it has given us an insight into what it is like not to have a voice; to not be able to speak up and have our opinion heard.

There are some who live in such a culture that their opinion is not valued. And others still who don’t think their god desires to hear their voice.

Our God is quite the opposite. In fact, He instructs us to pray continuously! We may stay silent because we are tired or lazy or preoccupied, but may we never stay silent when we are given the opportunity to worship our Saviour.

Prayer: Lord, may we not give the rocks the opportunity to cry out. May we boldly proclaim how great you are. Amen.

How vocal have you been lately in your worship?
