Healthy Boundaries

Sometimes the boundaries that we set are not necessarily healthy, however, we all have boundaries in place in our lives.

Numbers 34:1-29

Reference: v.2 “Command the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you enter Canaan, the land that will be allotted to you as an inheritance is to have these boundaries…” (TNIV Bible)

Explore: There are times when my daughter feels like the boundaries that we set for her are incredibly tight.  And then we will plan an event with another family and she will quickly discover that some parents are even tighter than we are!  While we may not always agree with another parents level of boundaries on their children, I’m trying to teach my daughter that we respect their decisions as they are making the best choice for their child.

Application: When we move out of home we start to create our own boundaries.  Sometimes the boundaries that we set are not necessarily healthy, however, we all have boundaries in place in our lives.  God sets boundaries for his children too.  We have the commands that he gives to the Israelites that are still applicable to our lives today.  Even when God led His people into the Promised Land, he still set them boundaries.  He didn’t just say, “You’re here now, go crazy and take whatever land you want,” as He knew that was not the wisest way to live.  We all have boundaries that we live by and it’s important to reevaluate them every now and again to make sure that they are healthy for us and for our growing relationship with God.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the healthy boundaries that you set in our lives.  Help us to create healthy limits in our lives.  Amen.

What are the boundaries you have in your life?
