Haven of Rest

When I need to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, or the demands and pressures of work life, I go there.

Jeremiah 9:1-26

Reference:  v.2  Oh, that I had in the desert a lodging place for travelers, so that I might leave my people and go away from them; for they are all adulterers, a crowd of unfaithful people. (NIV Bible)

Explore:  My parents’ house in country Victoria is like a haven of rest for me.  When I need to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, or the demands and pressures of work life, I go there.  Even just the drive to the country seems to calm me.  If there has been a lot going on for me I may even spend the whole two and a half hours drive in absolute silence.  And then, when I arrive to the familiar sights and smells of ‘home’, my shoulders loosen, my guard comes down and I can finally start to relax.  While I don’t go to my parents’ house often enough, when I do I always find it a place filled with love and comfort.

Application:  While I always take great comfort knowing that God is always there for me, I had not looked at it from His point of view.  Even when evil is rife and people are making destructive choices, God sees and hears it all.  He cannot sign out for a couple of days and just head to His parents’ house.  He doesn’t have a haven of rest to remove Himself from the world.  And to be honest, with my understanding of God, I think that even if He did, He wouldn’t go anyway.  He is so loving and caring that He would even witness the difficult times so that, if there was any chance that his child would return, He would understand what they had been through.  I think it’s important for people to have their havens, but let’s not take for granted that our God is there for us always.

Prayer:  Lord, you promise never to leave us or forsake us.  Thank you.  Amen.

How are your energy levels at the moment?  Do you need to take some time to rejuvenate?
