Goal Setting

It’s nice to tick the accomplishments off the list

John 17:1-5

Reference: “I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.” ‭John‬ ‭17:4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Explore: I am terrible at setting goals but I do like getting to the end of the year and reflecting on what had been planned and what has been achieved. It’s nice to tick the accomplishments off the list and reflect on what changes need to be made.

I don’t think I have ever completed a year or completed a job to discover that everything has been ticked off. There is always something more I could have accomplished.

The end of the year is a good time for reflection, but the end of a job can leave you feeling incomplete. It’s not the ideal but can often be the reality.

Application: When Jesus was preparing for His death He must have looked at the world and seen there was still so much to accomplish. And yet He was satisfied with how He had lived as it had brought God glory.

What a great and ultimate goal: to give God glory.

There are always more goals to reach and more tasks to accomplish, but in all things we can give glory to God. It doesn’t matter if we’re at the beginning of our job or nearing the end, we are all called to give glory to God at every occasion.

Prayer: Lord, may I use the time You have given me to give You glory. With the gifts I have and the opportunities that present themselves, may people recognise You in all I do. Amen.

How can you give God glory today?
