While this is a quirky little saying it actually helped me to soldier on through some hard times.
Reference: But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas instead. (Mark 15:11 TNIV Bible)
Explore: I used to have a sign on the wall in my office that said:
Only dead fish go with the flow.
This creates quite the visual picture, doesn’t it! While this is a quirky little saying it actually helped me to soldier on through some hard times.
Life is not always an easy ride, but if we just follow the crowd we will often discover that we are not doing what we were truly created to do. Going with the flow does not allow us to stand out and live with a Christ-like difference.
Application: Jesus never just went with the flow. He stood out from the crowd, not by being showy, but by living a life that was so different to anyone else’s.
In contrast, we see the crowd who called out for Jesus’ death. They didn’t even understand all the politics that was going on behind the scenes; they just jumped on the bandwagon of the rest of the crowd and went with the flow.
A crowd has never been so wrong in all of history!
When it comes to the decisions we make, we need to stand up for what is right, not just what everyone else is doing.
Prayer: Lord, there are times when the crowd looks appealing and an easier option. Help us to know what You would do and be brave enough to do the same. Amen.
When have you had to go against the flow?
