Sometimes these days just sneak up on me and knock me for a six.
Ephesians 5:8-20
Reference: v.20 …always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. (TNIV Bible)
Explore: I really got out of bed on the wrong side the other day. In actual fact I think I must have got into bed on the wrong side as I had a terrible sleep and when my alarm finally went off I felt like I'd slept for a total of 30 minutes all night. Of course it was on this day that my hair would not sit right, all of my favourite clothes were in the wash, I forgot to take my water bottle to work and I had to stop at every red light on my way to work. All of this occurred before it even got to 5am! What a day!
Application: Do you ever have days like that? I must say that generally my life is really great. I love my family, love my job, have hooked into a great church and I have really fun friends but sometimes these days just sneak up on me and knock me for a six. When my day starts like it did the other day it's hard to be thankful for anything… let alone everything. And then I come across a verse like Ephesians 5:20 which tells me that I should ‘give thanks to God for everything'. We will always have days were things just don't seem to go to plan however, no matter how bad life gets, we are always able to give thanks to God for Jesus. While following Jesus does not mean that everything will go perfectly in our life it does mean that no matter what the current situation is looking for, we have a hope for the future.
Prayer: Lord, today I stop and take the time to give You thanks. (List your own things to thank the Lord for today.) Amen.
How do you hand a day that goes from bad to worse?
