I Am A Genius

What an incredibly talented and influential gentleman!

2 Chronicles 15:1-19

Reference: But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded. (2 Chronicles 15:7 NIV)

Explore: “Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration.” – Thomas Edison

Edison led an eventful life. He dropped out of high school but went on to become one of the most well known inventors of our time.

You know that little light bulb that illuminates the room? That’s all thanks to our mate Tom!

On top of that, he greatly influenced the phonograph, the motion picture camera, and he was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production. What an incredibly talented and influential gentleman!

And yet, he is noted as saying, “Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration.”

Application: God said the same thing, just with different words: “But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

I may not be in the middle of an invention that will change the world, but I do need to hear these words. There are seasons in our lives that are challenging and the easiest option would be to take the first exit out. However, God (and Edison) encourage us to stick it out. They believed, from their experience, that our perseverance would be rewarded.

You, like me, may need to hear these words today. Know that you are strong, you are a genius and God acknowledges all that you do.

Prayer: Lord, I am so close to giving up. I can’t see the light and I’m struggling to think of any hope in the future. Give me the perseverance I need to stay strong so that I can achieve great things. Amen.

What are you struggling to stick at? Pray to God about your specific situation.
