“Do you have any games on your phone?”
Reference: They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the Lord was my support. (Psalm 18:18 NIV)
Explore: I was recently sitting out in a primary school corridor waiting to pick up one of my boys. A couple of cheeky grade ones were out of their room and noticed me on my phone.
I wasn’t taking a call, but checking emails and catching up on anything I’d missed since being at work. As all young children of this generation do, they gravitated immediately to the piece of technology.
They were greatly disappointed when they noticed only words on my screen. “Do you have any games on your phone?” You should have seen their faces when I said I didn’t!
“Why don’t you have games?” They couldn’t believe that I wouldn’t want to just play on my phone the whole time.
Application: I remember being the same when I was a child. I always thought that when I was an adult, and finally in control, I would just play games all day and eat lollies for breakfast, lunch and tea.
Now that I am an adult, my priorities have changed, as have my responsibilities! I actually appreciate my job and I enjoy a hearty meal with vegetables.
I feel this is the same when it comes to being a disciple of Christ. Those that only observe our behaviour think that it’s boring and restrictive. And yet, believers see it differently.
We know the benefit of following Christ and use our free will to help others, not just help ourselves. This may seem strange to those who don’t understand, but it gives us purpose and meaning, knowing that we are following God. And it gives us the greatest comfort knowing that our support is from the Lord.
Prayer: Lord, when others doubt, may we rise above their persecution and work to show how great You are. There can be no greater support than that which comes from You, and our lives are better when we are following You. Amen.
What support do you need from God right now?
