Ezekiel 29:1-21
Reference: Egypt will no longer be a source of confidence for the people of Israel but will be a reminder of their sin in turning to her for help. Then they will know that I am the Sovereign Lord. (Ezekiel 29:16 NIV)
Explore: We have a family friend who works part time as a stand up comedian. He’s a great guy and heaps of fun, but you always wonder whether every conversation is a set up for a joke.
And it’s no point trying to beat him at a joke. While he loves a good laugh, he’s always the first to get to the punchline.
On many occasions I have seen people try to outsmart him in the joke department, but he has such an incredible gift of giving comebacks that he always seems to get the last laugh. He absolutely dominates and can out-joke anyone I’ve seen challenge him.
Application: It must be nice to be the best at something; to know that you are better than anyone else at a particular skill. We all have our own gifts and it’s nice to be able to celebrate the things that we’re successful at.
When it comes to comedy, there’s no one better than my mate. Likewise, when it comes to authority, there’s no one more powerful than our God.
People think that they can outsmart God or impress others with their superiority, however, God can reduce even the greatest kings to absolutely nothing.
It’s good to celebrate our strengths, but it’s also important to put them in perspective of God and His greatness. We can never do better than God, and His might is worth acknowledging.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are great. While we thank You for the gifts You have given to us, we acknowledge Your power and Your might. Amen.
What can you do better than anyone else?
