From Drizzle to Rainbow

What started out as disappointing weather ended up giving me the most stunning of visions.

Isaiah 38:1-22

Reference: v.7 ‘This is the Lord’s sign to you that the Lord will do what he has promised…’ (TNIV Bible)

Explore: A little while ago I was driving for a few hours through the countryside of Victoria. While I was on a major highway there were far spread paddocks on each side of the road.

Being Winter, it started to drizzle and I braced myself for a dark and dreary drive home. I really don’t mind long drives through the countryside, however, when it’s raining it can make a pleasant drive exhausting as you have to concentrate through every puddle and corner.

However, instead of being brought down by the rain, I was given a pleasant surprise. The drizzle cleared quickly and as the sun popped its head out from behind a cloud I saw the most perfect rainbow arch its way across the sky.

This rainbow was magnificent. It was one of the brightest ones I’d ever seen and the colours just blended beautifully into each other. In fact, due to the relatively flat countryside beside the road, I ended up being able to see the whole rainbow in its full glory.

What started out as disappointing weather ended up giving me the most stunning of visions.

Application: The rainbow is a reminder given to us that God will never flood the whole earth again. It was a sign God gave to all humanity after such a dark time of rebellion and devastation in our history.

God gave Hezekiah a sign that He had heard his prayer and God was going to act on his behalf.

While God does not always take away our pain and disappointment, He does always hear our prayers and He does show us, often through signs, that He promises never to leave us.

We often go through times of drizzle, rain, and even thunderstorm. However, our God is a God who creates rainbows, who brings us through times of pain and shows us His glory for our lives.

Prayer: Lord, whenever I see the slight bit of drizzle coming my way I tend to complain and grumble. May I see each drop of rain as an opportunity for you to declare Your beauty through the rainbow that will follow. Amen.
