While I may not be sporting the most current fashions I am always conscious of what I am wearing.

Explore: In an advertisement for Vogue I saw that fluorescent colours were back in fashion.
I have been told that you should never relive a fashion statement. Therefore, seeing as though flouro colours were fashionable when I was a teenager, I would not be considered too old to get away with having it in my current wardrobe.
This does not concern me too much as I don’t think flouro colours are really going to work for me anyway!
While I may not be sporting the most current fashions I am always conscious of what I am wearing. A close friend mentioned I looked good in a terracotta coloured jumper, so I went out and bought three other tops in a similar shade!
While I wouldn’t consider myself a fashion guru, I do like to look good and feel good in what I am wearing.
Application: I wonder if Isaiah the prophet ever thought of fashion. While he certainly didn’t wear the current trends, he is one of the few Biblical characters to have his wardrobe mentioned in our pages.
To begin with, Isaiah wore sackcloth. This was a garment made of harsh material worn during times of grieving.
This piece of clothing was not foreign to the people, however, Isaiah wore it constantly as a sign to God’s people of the sorrow they were causing God and the pain that was still to come.
However, Isaiah did not stop at sackcloth. God commanded him to walk around without an outer garment or footwear. Isaiah may not have been completely naked, however, he would have been considered totally inappropriate and you can guarantee that Vogue would not have been highlighting his fashion!
Isaiah’s whole life – even down to what he wore (or didn’t wear!) – was a way of communicating to the people about their God. Imagine if our lives were that transparent. Every single thing we say and do CAN be a message to our world from God.
Prayer: Lord, may our lives speak of Your love, grace and compassion. Amen.
How does your life represent God’s character?
