I love watching as they stare intently up at the sky, waiting for the next explosion
Reference: v.8
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call forth songs of joy. (TNIV Bible)
Explore: Watching fireworks in the night sky is one of my favourite things to do. I never find it boring to see all the colours burst onto the black background. I love them so much that my husband even tried to organize them for our wedding but they were just a little too expensive. While it’s certainly amazing to look up in the sky during a fireworks display I often take the chance to look at the people around me, particularly the children. I love watching as they stare intently up at the sky, waiting for the next explosion and then marveling at all the colour and sound. If you were to look around the crowd during a fireworks show you see a whole group of people – old and young – staring into the sky with their mouths open in wonder at the colourful display.
Application: If we stand in awe at the sight of fireworks exploding across the night sky, imagine the awe and wonder we are going to express when we meet God face-to-face. I think when that happens then I will not be able to take my eyes off Him to look around at the crowd, we will all be completely transfixed. The great thing about God is that we don’t have to wait until we leave this world to be able to experience His wonder. There are expressions of God all around us – through His creation, through His children and through His work inside each one of us. When we notice his power, his grace and his wonder let us not move on too quickly but spend some time in the knowledge that His power is greater than any fireworks display and we are truly honored to be in His crowd.
Prayer: Lord, thank you so much for being a part of my life. I don’t deserve it but You have saved me anyway. Thank you. Amen.
Where have you noticed God’s wonder recently?
