Fill The Void

It was an expensive and timely exercise and one that could have led to disaster

Ezekiel 5:1-17

Reference: Yet in her wickedness she has rebelled against my laws and decrees more than the nations and countries around her. She has rejected my laws and has not followed my decrees. (Ezekiel 5:6 NIV)

Explore: My cousin recently told me of a relative of his who got in quite a fix. He was running low on fuel so pulled into a service station to fill up.

He quickly filled the tank of petrol, however, as he went to pay something suddenly dawned on him. His car took diesel. He had filled up his car with the wrong fuel!

He called roadside assist and they told him that he should not even turn the car on. They would have to come, empty the tank completely of the wrong fuel and then he would need to start all over again.

It was an expensive and timely exercise and one that could have led to disaster for his vehicle.

Application: We all fill our lives with something. Some people fill their lives with entertainment, others fill their time with climbing the corporate ladder, while still others dedicate their lives to their family.

None of these need be terrible elements, however, God wants us to fill our lives with Him. He knows that if the void in our lives is filled with anything other than Him, we will be left wanting and often heading down a destructive road.

God sent Ezekiel to a nation of people because they had decided to fill their lives with things that were not from God. And their lives were going to suffer for it.

We all have a void in our lives, it’s up to us as to what we fill it with. God is always there, available for us, but He allows the choice to be ours.

Prayer: Lord, there are many things in our lives that seem appealing. Help us to stay focused on You and remember that You are the One who can give us the greatest fulfillment. Amen.

What do you tend to fill your life with?
