Fight To Win

It was one of the greatest pieces of advice anyone has ever given me.

Genesis 26:12-25

Reference: He moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over it. He named it Rehoboth, saying, “Now the Lord has given us room and we will flourish in the land.” (‭Genesis‬ ‭26‬:‭22‬ NIV)

Explore: Pick your battles. It was one of the greatest pieces of advice anyone has ever given me.

It has helped me in my marriage and is certainly something I still need to chant to myself when dealing with my children. It doesn’t mean I allow people to  walk all over me, but it helps me to be discerning as to what I feel is important.

We grow up with this understanding that we always have to win a fight. But sometimes winning an argument with a loved one has a detrimental impact on the relationship.

It’s a more important skill to know when we draw swords or when we fly the white flag.

Application: In Genesis 26, Isaac was going through a time of great blessing and wealth. And yet not everything was smooth sailing.

He lived in a foreign area and the people around him were jealous and territorial. Thankfully, Isaac had the wisdom to pick his battles.

And in doing so, God expanded his wealth and his future.

When we are set to battle, we only see the enemy before us. However, when we allow ourselves time to consider the consequences then we take a step back and can see much more around us.

May we be a Godly example to those around us and share our wisdom on picking our battles.

Prayer: Lord, give us Your wisdom and perspective so we can make Godly decisions with what we commit to. Amen.

What battles are you choosing to fight?
