This Is My Favourite

Our favourite things influence our decisions

2 Chronicles 2:1-18

Reference: “The temple I am going to build will be great, because our God is greater than all other gods.” (2 Chronicles 2:5)

Explore: My favourite food is bread. If I can incorporate bread into any meal, I will.

My favourite piece of clothing is my tracksuit pants. Whenever I get home, and I know I don’t have to see anyone outside my family for the rest of the day, I will put them on. It’s like the whole world is a better place!

My favourite past time is going to the movies. Whenever my husband suggests a date night, he will often propose going to the movies to show he loves me, as he knows how much I love getting wrapped up in the big screen story.

Application: It’s interesting to think of our favourite things and realise how they influence our decisions. While I don’t always get to choose my favourites, if I do have the power to make a choice, I will always lean towards my favourite preferences.

Solomon’s favourite god was Yahweh.  There were plenty of other options, but the God of Israel was his preference. Therefore, the decisions that Solomon made were based on his love and devotion to God.

This is true for us too. If we make God our favourite preference then it will reflect in our lives.

Just like my favourite things impact my choices, my faith impacts my life decisions. Because God is my favourite I change the way I speak, act and love. If it was not for my God preference then I’d be even more selfish and greedy than I am now.

If people cannot see that God is your favourite, then maybe you need to evaluate just where God sits on your priority list.

Prayer: Lord, there is none like You. Our other favourite things in this world pale in significance to Your power and glory. You are my ultimate favourite. Amen.
