Fashion Faux Pas

There was no way I would ever see that fashion as ok.

Psalm 110:1-7

Reference: v.4 The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind:
“You are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek.” (TNIV Bible)

Explore: A couple of years ago it became fashionable to wear knee-high boots over your jeans. I thought this was absolutely ridiculous!

I didn’t mind skirts with long boots, or long boots under jeans, but wearing them over jeans just looked silly. Maybe it was my farming upbringing that made the look feel more like gum boots than stylish leather boots.

There was no way I would ever see that fashion as ok.

A year later the boots-over-jeans fashion was still going strong. Everyone was doing it and it was starting to look commonplace. To be honest, I was starting to appreciate the look.

Although I tried to resist it for a little longer, one day I decided to try it myself. I’m far from a fashionista so I was rather self-conscious tucking my jeans into my knee-high boots.

But as I walked down the street I felt quite cool. Although the fashion was far from cutting edge, I felt like I was working it with the best of them!

It seems crazy looking back on that day as it is now commonplace for me to wear my leather boots outside of my jeans. Who would have thought that I could change my mind so completely.

Application: While boot-wearing is not of great importance in the big scheme of things, I think it shows how easily I – and most humans – can change their minds.

This is not the case with God. We should not put our wavering minds in the same category as God’s. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever will be.

God sees the bigger picture and while we may change our minds, He holds true to his promises ALL the time.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for being consistent and steadfast. We know that we can rely on You at all times and You will always keep Your promises to us. Amen.

How has God been steadfast in your life?
