Far Reaching Actions

Sometimes our actions don’t just impact the person they are directed towards

2 Samuel 2:1-32

Explore: Our actions can echo across relationships.

My sister has recently moved overseas. It was a big change for her and the first few weeks were quite tough.

About a month into her stay she sent me a photo of herself with her friend Summer. I had heard her speak of Summer a few times and now seeing her smiling next to my sister my heart instantly warmed to her.

When I sent my sister a video message I made sure I mentioned Summer and included her in my message of love and support. While I had never met Summer I appreciated what she had done for my sister and wanted to show her love in return.

Application: Sometimes our actions don’t just impact the person they are directed towards but can have a ripple effect to many people. This works for harsh actions as well as loving ones.

King David found out it was the men of Jabesh Gilead who had buried Saul after his death. To be honest, Saul probably didn’t care so much for his burial as he was no longer there!

But it had an impact on King David and as such they received a blessing, not just from the future king but also from his most powerful God.

When we consider our actions, both big and small, it’s important to realise they could potentially impact someone very significant.

Prayer: Lord, if we strive to act in the way You would desire, then our actions will always have a positive impact. May we live to love and serve as You did here on earth. Amen.

Whose actions have had an impact on you lately?
