Our reality now is the fallen world we live in. A world where people abuse power, prioritize their selfish ambition and ignore those in need.
Genesis 3:1-24
Reference: v.6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. (NIV Bible)
Explore: Some friends of ours have a very cute baby who is almost 1. She’s quite mobile and is very inquisitive about the world around her. Her parents have to keep a constant eye on her to make sure she is not getting in to anything that is dangerous. If she does make movements towards something she’s not allowed to touch her parents will say a firm, ‘No!’ The other day her mum was telling me that every time she says, ‘No’ her daughter now turns around, looks innocently up at her and nods her head, as if saying, ‘Yes.’ For someone who can not yet talk, she is certainly able to communicate! I thought that was hilarious, and I think deep down the parents did too!
Application: Life would have been so different if Adam and Eve had not eaten the ‘fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden’. I guess we’ll never know. Our reality now is the fallen world we live in. A world where people abuse power, prioritize their selfish ambition and ignore those in need. And yet, as believers, we also have another reality: we know of a God who goes out of his way, even to the extent of sacrificing his own son, to draw us back into a closer relationship with Him. While God banished Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden it seems that He still desires that close relationship with each human. God is reaching out to each one of us. How will we respond?
Prayer: Lord, forgive us our sins and help us to forgive others who sin against us. Amen.
In what ways do we fall when trying to follow God?
