One friendship is not better than the other, they are just different.
Reference: “I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”” John 4:38 NIV
Explore: Some of my friendships were instant.
Take Anna for instance; as soon as we spent time together we connected. We made each other laugh, enjoyed the same things and had a similar outlook on life.
Some other friendships have been more gradual.
Like with Rachel; I first met her at small group. She seemed nice and had a lovely family.
Over the course of the next few weeks we continued to chat at church and small group. We exchanged numbers and then caught up for dinner.
While our connection started out quite loosely, we now search each other out and regularly catch up.
It doesn’t mean one friendship is better than the other, they are just different.
Application: The same kind of variation happens for people when they come to faith. Some people have an incredible experience and instantly dedicate their lives to Jesus.
While for others it’s a gradual process. They start off going to school with some Christians, then being on the edge of a youth group, maybe hearing about Jesus on the radio, until one day they hit rock bottom and alone in their room they ask Jesus to reveal Himself to them.
Everyone’s faith journey is different. It doesn’t mean one person is more godly than the next, but it reveals the diversity of our God.
It also doesn’t mean we have failed if our friends and family have not yet committed their lives to Jesus. Maybe we are just one of the steps, in the long stairway they need to walk, before they can give themselves to Jesus.
Prayer: Lord, You are the Way, the Truth and the Life. May we reveal Your greatness in all we do so that others may know You and take a step closer to connecting with You. Amen.
Who do you know who is on a journey towards faith?
