The one question every female is burning to ask me is, “How did you do it?”
Reference: v.56 But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted him and fled. (TNIV Bible)
Explore: Over the last four months I have lost 20 kilos (44 pounds). For the first couple of months no one seemed to notice, however, now I get quite a few remarks about my weight loss.
The one question every female is burning to ask me is, “How did you do it?” On its own it’s quite an innocent question. But when you see the burning in their eyes you know what they are really asking for.
Deep down inside they are hoping that you will give them the answer they want. That answer goes something like this… “Oh, it was really easy. All I did was take this magic pill and all the weight just fell off instantly.”
Unfortunately, for all of us who struggle with our weight, the answer is very different.
I lost weight by eating less calories and doing more energy. It’s not rocket science, it’s one of the most basic equations ever. Less in + More out = Weight loss.
While I would love to be able to give everyone the easy weight loss answer, unfortunately for them (and for me!) it’s not the case.
Application: We would all love to take the easy road. Whether it’s looking for that easy weight loss program, the quick-rich scheme, or our 15 minutes of fame, there is no easy pathway.
If you are looking at doing something that is valuable and worthwhile, then I can guarantee that it will take discipline, sacrifice and commitment.
When Jesus went to make the ultimate sacrifice for all of humanity you can be assured that there was discipline, sacrifice and commitment. At any time He could have made it all stop – He had the power of Heaven and Earth behind Him. And yet, He knew that what He was doing was so worthwhile for us that He was willing to make that sacrifice.
Prayer: Lord, we can never repay your sacrifice for us. Thank you for being willing to go through all that pain so that we would have freedom. May we be more diligent in the areas of our lives that are worthwhile and be willing to make the sacrifice to make those things happen. Amen.
What is something worthwhile in your life that you would like to work towards? What is a sacrifice that you can give today to start to make it happen?
