When my husband and I high five each other because we got to bed before 10pm, that’s when I realise I’m a grown up.

When I choose to eat meat and vegetables for dinner even though I have the means to just eat lollies, I realise I’m a grown up.
When I was asked to officiate at a wedding, I realised I was a grown up. When I resigned from my job because my heart was no longer in it, I realised I was a grown up.
When I told my father I loved him for the very last time, then watched him pass away in my arms, I realised I was a grown up.
Application: As we grow older there are some responsibilities that come with time. This can make us feel important, but it can also make us feel lonely.
When I realise I am the one who is in control, or who holds all the decisions, there are times when it would be nice to be the child and have someone else make the decisions for me. That’s why I found psalm 61 so comforting.
“Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
God is that rock. He is the strength we can draw on and the firm foundation we need to launch from.
I won’t always make the best choices, but when I’m called on to be a grown up, it’s God who is ‘higher than I’, and that gives me comfort.
Prayer: Lord, sometimes I feel overwhelmed by the responsibility upon my shoulders. May I come to You for strength and comfort from all that is expected of me. Amen.
