I was quite surprised as I felt he had already gone out of his way for this couple.

Explore: My husband recently did a favour for a newly married couple. When they were all together they decided to go out for lunch.
When I looked at my bank balance the next day I noticed my husband had paid for the whole lunch. I was quite surprised as I felt he had already gone out of his way for this couple.
He explained that, as they were newlyweds, they didn’t have much money. Also, we had gone out for tea earlier in the week and our meal had been surprisingly paid for and so he felt we could cover it.
He was right on both levels and his generosity put me to shame. It was not a game of whose turn it was to give but my husband had shared openly and generously.
Application: I love the Godly characteristic of generosity, but it’s still something I need to work on.
Proverbs gives warning about dining with people who only give out of obligation. I hope my heart is continually changed by the generous people around me and the generous heart of our God.
Prayer: Lord, as you gave sacrificially may I also give above and beyond what is expected. Amen.
When was the last time you gave generously to another?
