… but I’m kind of proud of it!
Reference: All your robes are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; from palaces adorned with ivory the music of the strings makes you glad. (Psalm 45:8 NIV)
Explore: What I am about to tell you is pretty disgusting… but I’m kind of proud of it!
Exercising does not come naturally to me, but lately I have been getting up early to go for a jog. Over the last month, my fitness has improved, my weight has dropped, and my resting heart rate has lowered.
That’s not the disgusting part. What hasn’t changed is the stench coming from my work out clothes!
Needless to say, when I exercise, I sweat and when I sweat, I stink! The odour that comes from my jogging top and shoes is so violent it could probably start a war!
While the smell is offensive to anyone in a 2 mile radius (!) I must admit, I’m quite proud of it. I’m not proud that my body smells so unladylike, but I’m proud that it points to how hard I’ve been working out.
Application: In Psalm 45 it speaks of someone so glorious that even their robes are filled with pleasant fragrances. (Clearly they haven’t been working out!)
But I loved this idea of our lives giving off a fragrance. A scent reveals what work someone has been doing.
I endeavour to live in such a way that someone smells the hard work of a disciple, rather than the laziness of a sloth. Let us be mindful of what we do, as our lives will tell others of what we believe.
Prayer: Lord, You have given us all the ability to work for You. May we commit to working hard to bring You glory. Amen.
What scent does your life give?
