Diligent Workers

Some people will take charge. Other people will work diligently. And then there are other people…

2 Thessalonians 3.1-18

Reference:  v.11  We hear that some among you are idle.  They are not busy; they are busybodies.  (NIV Bible)

Explore:  When there is a lot of work to be done you find people respond in different ways.  Some people will take charge.  They will gather the team, they’ll delegate responsibilities, they’ll make sure everyone is doing their job.  Other people will work diligently.  They’ll stick their heads down and get to work.  They’ll be efficient and incredibly productive.  And then there are other people who will constantly move around, looking busy but really getting absolutely nothing done.  While the first group of people may come across as bossy and the second group of people may seem too task-oriented, we all know who we would rather work with!

Application:  Isn’t it amazing that even in the early first centuries there was laziness and people being ‘busybodies’ rather than just busy?!  The disciples at that time had such a driven life as they defended their faith and worshiped God through word and deed.  And really, our lives should be just as driven today.  The resurrection of our Saviour may have happened 2000 years ago but there is still much work to be done.  We all have gifts from God.  We all have a task to complete.  May God give us the direction we are seeking so we can work diligently to build His Kingdom.

Prayer:  Lord, there are some people who desire to work diligently but have lost their way.  Give them your wisdom.  Lord, there are some people who have been working diligently but have become exhausted.  Give them your peace.  Lord, there are some people who know their purpose but have given up.  Give them your grace.  Amen.

What are you being called to work diligently on at the moment?
