Desert Song

Each verse can speak into a different situation that we may be going through.

Exodus 11:1-10

Reference: v.10 Moses and Aaron performed all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let the Israelites go out of his country. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: One of my favourite worship songs is Brooke Fraser’s Desert Song. Each verse can speak into a different situation that we may be going through. The one verse that strikes me every time is the one with lyrics that say,

“This is my prayer in the battle
When triumph is still on its way
I am conqueror and co-heir with Christ
so firm on His promise I’ll stand”

It reminds me that times do not always go smoothly, and yet even during the rough moments, we still need to hold firm in our faith.

Application: It must have been so hard for the Israelites who were trying to leave Egypt. God had said he would rescue them, and yet after all these plagues they were still there under Pharaoh’s control. There will be times in our lives when we go through trials and pain and not know when God will rescue us. These are not the times for us to lose hope, but to hold firmly to God’s promise that He will always be there for us and to worship the God who provides.

Prayer: Lord, we are not to know when you will act. May we be forward in our faith during the times in the desert, fire, battle and harvest. Amen.

Do you feel you are in a time of desert, fire, battle or harvest? How is your faith holding up?
