Hi! Thanks for reading my REAP articles.
I’m currently on holidays at the moment so thought I would do something slightly different.
There have been numerous people who have had a big impact on me this past year. I once read a blog that said we should name the people who have influenced us as a way of saying 'thank you'. I can't remember who that was, so I can't thank them specifically! However, I would like to honour just five people who I do remember that have had a positive impact on me this year. Derryn Ling It is exciting to see someone working in their 'sweet spot'. What I mean by a 'sweet spot' is that area where all the strengths and talents of one person can be utilized and developed. I believe that Derryn Ling has found his 'sweet spot' in teaching. While I am sure there are many challenges he faces on a daily basis, Derryn comes alive when he is in a classroom. He commits fully to his students, he performs beyond his set job description and he radiates energy whenever he speaks of teaching. If I ever magically went back in time and had to go through primary school again, I would want Mr Ling as my teacher! Derryn is not just an outstanding teacher. He is also a loyal friend, a brilliant encourager and a deligent leader. I know that I can always rely on Derryn. When I work with him on teams I know that he plans things thoroughly and fulfils every task set for him. When I need a friend I know that he is only a phone call away and always willing to come to my side, well equipped with a block of my favourite chocolate! I once heard that it takes seven positive statements to counteract one negative statement. With this in mind I would say that Derryn has reversed a great deal of negative statements in his life. He is encouraging and affirming to so many people. He sees the positive side to people and does not hesitate to let them know. I have been fortunate enough to receive a number of these affirmations. Whether it is in a card, on an email or even in a text message, Derryn has a way with words that makes the receiver feel appreciated and worthwhile. Different friends often fulfil different roles. You might have your movie friends, your sporty friends, your D&M (deep-and-meaningful conversation) friends, and your card playing friends. Derryn seems to fill all those categories… and more. He is always fun when we're up for a joke but then I appreciate all the great conversations we've shared whilst driving along in the car. I am so excited for Derryn's future as he continues to grow in a career that he loves and is open to learning more about himself in the process. He brings so much energy and happiness to my life and for that I say, "Thanks Dezzy!"
