Delegation Dilemma

While some people find it very easy to hand over work to others, for some reason I struggle nearly every time.

Mark 6:1-56

Reference:  v.7  Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two and gave them authority over evil spirits. (NIV Bible)

Explore:  Every year as part of my ministry position, I have a review.  This is where I discuss what I have accomplished over the past year, what I need to improve on and what my future goals may be.  At each review I find that dreaded word always rears it's ugly head… delegation.  While some people find it very easy to hand over work to others, for some reason I struggle nearly every time.  On the one hand I find that my volunteers are already so busy I don't want to burden them any further and then on the other hand I find that if I want the job done in a particular way I may as well do it myself.  Both ways are not very empowering or helping to delegate out my work load!  Delegation always seems to be on the 'to-do' list.

Application:  Surely Jesus – the Son of God, the all-powerful, miracle-performing, holy and majestic One – would have problems delegating.  I mean, let's face it, He could do EVERYTHING better than anyone else.  And yet, time and time again in the gospels we hear Jesus sending the disciples out to do the Lord's work.  Of course Jesus would have been able to do the job better… He would have done it perfectly in fact, and yet he delegates out to his disciples so they too can minister for God.  We can not do great things for God on our own.  We need a trusted team around us and the blessing of God to go with us.  Then, we too can be like Jesus' disciples and do great things in His Name.

Prayer:  Lord, so often I try to do things in my own strength.  May I rely on Your power and be willing to work with those You have placed around me.  Amen.

What areas of your life can you work better with others?  Who has God placed in your life so that you can do greater work for Him?
