Explore: In my line of work every single person uses a computer. We have high technical needs and various programs are being used 24 hours a day.
As with all technical equipment, it’s amazing when it works. However, if something goes slightly wrong then most people are lost and work ceases to function efficiently.
Our IT support guys are some of the most crucial members of our staff. If the problem has not been fixed by ‘turning it off and on again’, then these guys are our first port of call.
We even have a special program set up to file all our issues to our technical support team. You just log in, write up your issue, gauge how urgent the request is, then send the message off.
Not only will this alert the support crew to the issue, but they will then continue to follow up the concern until it is completely fixed. Once the problem has been fixed the IT guy closes down the complaint file. It’s like their own series of CSI really, but instead of Crime Scene Investigation it’s more like Computer Systems Investigation.
Our tech team are quick, efficient and do their best to deal with any issue that comes across their program.
The problem with being on a tech support team is that you only get notified if there is an issue. Not once have I sent the tech team a message saying, “Computer is working fine today.” No, they are only contacted when something is broken.
Application: This is often how we communicate with God too. We only ‘log in’ to God when something is not working in our lives.
I can imagine that the majority of God’s messages are: ‘help me’; ‘this isn’t working for me’; ‘what do I do now?’ We end up treating God like our tech support team, only addressing Him when we have a problem.
That is not a healthy relationship. God does so much more for us than just helping us when things are going badly. When we only go to Him with our issues then we are missing out on the best part of the relationship – enjoying the good times with Him too.
It is wonderful that our gracious God is so willing to help us when we are in need, but let us not forget to share with God the positives in our lives as well as the concerns.
Prayer: Lord, forgive me when I’m so selfish and only look to my own needs. May I share every single moment with You today, and rejoice in Your glory and power. Amen.
Other than your problems, what else can you share with God today?
