I was young, inexperienced and totally out of my depth.
Reference: I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service. (1 Timothy 1:12 NIV)
Explore: I had only been attending a church for six months when they asked me to head up their children’s ministry. I was completely overwhelmed! I was young, inexperienced and totally out of my depth.
With a close friend, we put our heads down and started planning. We only had a small team to work with and resources that looked like Noah had with him in the Ark!
Six months in and I felt I was flailing. We were unsure of budgets, leadership and theology, and had to pick ourselves up from an exhausted heap after each Sunday.
I was close to throwing it all in when someone gave me this quote: “God doesn’t choose those who are able, but enables those He chooses.”
Application: God has called every single one of us to serve Him, and when we step up in obedience He’s not able to leave us on our own. Believe it or not, it seems that even the amazing apostle Paul sometimes struggled, but he always had the confidence of Christ behind him.
While it’s good to be wise and discerning about our work for God, let us not be held back by our insecurities but step forward in the confidence that Christ has our back!
Prayer: Lord, I lack confidence and that holds me back. May my faith in You increase to such a place that I will move forward with purpose and passion to build Your kingdom. Amen.
What is holding you back at the moment?
