Acts 7.54-8.8
Reference: v.8.4 Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.
Explore: The great persecution that came upon the early church was meant to divide and conquer this new strain of religion that confessed Jesus of Nazareth as Lord and Messiah. However, it had the opposite effect. When the believers were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria, instead of keeping quiet about Jesus they became more vocal and proclaimed his name wherever they went.
Application: We move in many different circles in our lives. We have our work circle, our family circle, our friendship circle, our church circle, possibly an interest or hobby circle, our neighbourhood circle, and that’s just to name the basics. Imagine if we lived out our faith so completely that it didn’t actually matter which circle we were in, we confessed Jesus as our Lord and Saviour wherever we went. I believe that acting in that way is truly being a Christian. Our faith in not just based to an hour or so during a church service. To have faith is to believe, confess and live out a Christ-like life no matter where we are, who we are with and what we are doing.
Prayer: Lord, we often feel the pressure of our culture or the group of people we are around, and conform to their ways instead of your ways. Help me to live my life as you would have me live. Amen.
