Coming Home

It was never really an option

Hosea 11:1-12

Reference: “How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I treat you like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboyim? My heart is changed within me; all my compassion is aroused. (Hosea 11:8 NIV)

Explore: When our foster daughter was eighteen she decided that the rules of our house were too restrictive to obey. After months of arguments and rebellion she moved out.

She had a year of parties, drugs and independence and then returned home – broke, depressed and pregnant.

Our friends revered us for taking her back, but for me it was never really an option. We were still her family and I knew that our home was the best place for her to be.

Application: While these times were incredibly challenging for us, they reminded me of the love that our Heavenly Father has for us. We find His laws too restrictive, and so, we go our own way. Only to find ourselves lost and hopeless.

God’s love for us goes far beyond my understanding. But I am thankful for it every single day.

Prayer: Lord, may Your love surround me and bring me back home to You. Amen.

Have you wandered from God’s home?
