It’s only by her actions that he is able to see her obedience.
Reference: v.14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if people claim to have faith but have no deeds? Can such faith save them? (TNIV Bible)
Explore: I recently head Francis Chan talk about the importance of living out your faith. He said that if he was to ask his daughter to go and clean her bedroom then that is what he expects her to do. If she came back to her father and said, ‘Dad, I’ve really pondered in my heart what you’ve asked me to do,’ but hadn’t actually done any cleaning, then he would not be happy. He still would not be impressed if she gathered together with a group of people on a weekly basis to discuss how to clean her room and yet had done no cleaning at all. It’s only by her actions that he is able to see her obedience.
Application: This is true also when it comes to God. He asks us to live out our faith by loving others and yet so often we spend all our time talking about it and not actually acting upon it. God can really see our obedience when we live out our faith in our lives everyday.
Prayer: Lord, forgive us when our actions do not follow our words. Amen.
Do your actions reflect your faith?
