A well meaning hug can be quite detrimental for a creature so small
Reference: He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. (Psalm 91:4 NIV)
Explore: A friend of mine has chooks that have just hatched chickens. She has been watching them carefully for quite a few weeks now.
Every time she wanted to take photos of the eggs, she had to be careful to not upset her chook as she was so diligently sitting on the egg to keep it warm and protected. Now that the chicks have hatched it’s the same deal.
My friend and her children are so excited about the new little birds, however, a well meaning hug can be quite detrimental for a creature so small. The safest place for the chicken is really with its mother, under her wings.
Application: This picture of safety and security is used by the psalmist when he speaks of his own assurance. He knows the best place for him to be is under the wing of his Heavenly Father.
And yet, so often we wander away. We think we can do things in our own strength and decide we know what is best.
Thankfully, God is always there for us when we return! And He gathers us into His brood again to cover us with love and protection.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for loving me and giving me Your impenetrable protection. May I never wander too far away from You. Amen.
What entices you to wander away from God?
