The audience goes wild and even the judges are on their feet
Reference: And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. (Luke 18:6 NIV)
Explore: I’m a sucker for the underdog getting ahead.
There is no greater time for us to see this than in reality talent shows. I can picture it now.
A daggy looking person comes on stage to stand before a panel of good looking, professional, popular judges. They look the person up and down and all across the viewing audience we are judging them, thinking they aren’t going to amount to much.
But then, the contestant starts to reveal their talent and they blow everyone away. They have the voice of an angel, they dance like a ballerina or their magic mystifies.
The audience goes wild and even the judges are on their feet, applauding the unsuspecting talent.
Application: We often feel like we are standing before a judging panel. Sometimes we succeed and they applaud, but often we don’t entertain to their liking and we end up being criticised and belittled.
We can’t stop people from judging us, but we can stop heeding their words.
We stand every day before God. We often view Him as the judge when really He is more like the parents waiting in the wings.
He knows us, He loves us, He’s seen how hard we have worked, and He will embrace us… no matter what the earthly judges say. His words are worth listening to.
Prayer: Lord, so often we only draw from our own experience and we think of You as a judge or a critic. May we not confine You to our understanding, but continue to read the Bible to explore how great and mighty Your love for us really is. Amen.
In what aspect of your life do you need to be reminded that God is cheering you on from the wings?
