Changing Words

Social media has brought a whole new language with LOL, ROFL, and BRB

Ephesians 4:17-32

Reference: “In your anger do not sin” : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, (Ephesians 4:26 NIV)

Explore: A cultural analyst recently reminded me of how words have changed in the last few years.

A cloud is no longer something up in the sky that holds water. It’s a back-up method that stores your computer data.

A tablet is no longer something you ingest to receive medication. It’s a portable screened device that holds computer games and programs.

Social media has brought a whole new language with LOL, ROFL, BRB and many more abbreviations and acronyms.

Application: And yet, with all the changing language, there are times when I read the Bible and I am blown away at how relevant it is to our current culture. The words may have been written thousands of years ago but their mean still rings true.

This verse in Ephesians 4 is one such verse. I think the reminder “in your anger do not sin” is timely. Wide spread communication is always at our finger tips and there are times when we should stop typing publicly and process our emotions privately.

It’s not just the teenagers who vent their anger on twitter or post hurtful comments on Facebook. The Bible gives us wise words in how we should manage our relationships – cyber and personal.

If we take the time to read the Bible and apply it to our lives then we will find ourselves becoming more Christlike in our behaviour.

Prayer: Lord, give us the wisdom to acknowledge our anger and to deal with it effectively. Amen.

How do you process your anger?
