Change of Power

Some people are overjoyed while others are horrified.

Psalm 29:1-11

Explore: In the last few weeks the United States of America has had a change in their president. Some people are overjoyed at this change of guard, while others are horrified.

Even though we live thousands of miles away from this country, we realise the impact this nation has on the rest of the world. And so, all over the world there have been discussions about this new President.

A minister at our church made reference to the many changes that have happened over the last month and, while she didn’t make a statement to declare her political preference, she made a very wise, hopeful declaration.

We may not know what the future holds, but we know our God is still seated on the throne. He is all powerful and all knowing and it’s in Him we place our trust.

Application: When we read through Psalm 29 we hear of a different wise person speaking a hopeful declaration. The writer speaks of the power of God.

But in verse 10 he reminds us that God is Lord over the flood.

What a significant reminder to us all that bad things still happen in life. We live in a broken world. And yet God still reigns.

Hold fast to our Lord who in control. Do not let go of our Heavenly Father who sees all and supports us, no matter what situation we may face.

Prayer: Lord, we hold onto You and declare that You are what we need. May we assign all the glory and power to You and live with courage and hope in our God-filled future. Amen.

What things of this world seem concerning to you? How is God enthroned over that situation?
