The water always seems to navigate its way through any small crack or gap between your fingers.
Reference: But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. (Acts 2:24 TNIV)
Explore: Have you ever tried to keep water in your hands for a long period of time? Two hands is more successful than one, but the water always seems to navigate its way through any small crack or gap between your fingers.
Standing still is your best chance of success at holding water. As soon as you start moving, your hands automatically shift, thus creating more opportunity for the water to escape your grasp.
Thankfully someone created buckets, because if it was only up to our hands to carry water, we would all be very thirsty!
Application: When they tried to kill Jesus two thousand years ago, He took His last breath and they thought they had succeeded. And yet, the authorities had a better chance of carrying all the water from the Sea of Galilee in their hands than keeping Jesus from His ministry.
The strongest power at the time tried to get rid of Jesus, but even the inevitable death could not hold Him down. There is no one greater than God.
There are powers in our world today that try to keep each one of us down. It may be someone in a higher position than you at work, maybe a friend who is overly critical or maybe even your own overwhelming feelings of doubt.
When we give these negative powers too much of an influence in our lives then we end up being as successful as when we try to hold water in our hands! Instead, we should hand them over to someone more powerful, more wise, and who has our best interests at heart.
If God can conquer death then I think He can cope with our issues.
Prayer: Lord, there are times when I worry and feel trapped under powers that are against me. Thank You for the reminder that there is none greater than You. Amen.
What powers are currently weighing you down?
