Was there was more I could have done and more I could have given?
Reference: and King Solomon and the entire assembly of Israel that had gathered about him were before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and cattle that they could not be recorded or counted. (2 Chronicles 5:6 NIV)
Explore: I’ve recently had to fill out my tax return. I have to take note of my overall income, how much tax I have paid, health insurance payments and donations I’ve made that are tax deductible.
As I looked through my donations I was reminded of some of the great causes I had been able to donate money towards. But I also wondered if there was more I could have done and more I could have given.
Application: When Solomon brought the Ark towards the newly built temple they sacrificed so many animals before it that they couldn’t keep count! That’s a lot of animals!
This was a way that they honoured the Lord at that time. The way we honour God today is different. We don’t sacrifice animals but we can sacrifice our time, our money and our resources.
Imagine if we sacrificed so much to God that we couldn’t count it all. Imagine if I donated so much money to organisations that were doing Kingdom work that I couldn’t fit them on my tax return!
Not everyone has additional money to give, but we all have the same 24 hours in the day. Let’s be so generous towards God with what we have that we get to the end of the day and we can’t keep track of how much we have done for Him.
Prayer: Lord, we are blessed beyond belief by Your love. May we not store it up but give generously and sacrificially. Amen.
How much have you given today?
