Bureau of Meteorology

They are there to let us know when, and how severe, the weather will be.

2 Chronicles 21:1-20

Reference: So now the Lord is about to strike your people, your sons, your wives and everything that is yours, with a heavy blow. (2 Chronicles 21:14 NIV)

Explore: Our Bureau of Meteorology has a big responsibility. When some wild weather is heading our way, they are there to let us know when, and how severe, the weather will be.

After they have given wind warnings people are able to move cars or tie down outdoor settings so limited damage is done. When a fire warning is given people are given time to decide whether to evacuate their area or to sprinkle down their houses.

The Bureau of Meteorology cannot predict everything – weather is wild and often has a mind of its own – however it is often accurate and helpful to give guidance and foresight.

Application: God sent some pretty fierce destruction to the people during the Old Testament but He always sent prophets first. The prophets were there to instruct the people on what would happen if they didn’t change their ways. It was then up to the leader and the people to decide how they would act.

For us today, thanks to Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, we have a more personal relationship with God. He speaks to us, some times directly and other times through other means.

Our involvement in church certainly assists us with guidance, as does reading the Bible and praying regularly. We may not be able to check up on God’s direction on a website, like we can with the Bureau of Meteorology, but we can listen carefully to God’s guidance as to how we should live. Of course, the decision to act is always ours.

Prayer: Lord, open our eyes to Your guidance and may we choose wisely once we hear Your voice. Amen.
