It’s absolutely delicious and it transcends all meals.
Reference: And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” (Luke 22:19 NIV)
Explore: When people ask me what my favourite food is, I have to say bread. It’s absolutely delicious and it transcends all meals.
You can start a meal with bread, complemented with dips or even just oil. Bread can be the staple of a main meal as it provides a vehicle for all amazing savoury items in a sandwich. And yet it can also carry sweet goodness as it is toasted or eaten fresh.
It’s so versatile and adaptable, there’s nothing quite like it.
Application: While I often speak of the virtues of bread, it is also a great symbolic reminder of Jesus’ sacrifice for us. God took something common place and linked it to one of His greatest acts.
It is this mighty and loving act that goes beyond the flavour of any loaf of bread. But He keeps it fresh in our mind as a constant reminder of His grace.
Every time we eat bread may we be reminded of the goodness of God. He sacrificed His body so we would have life.
Just as bread can be the basis of a meal so, too, Jesus can be the basis of our lives.
Prayer: Lord, we try to fill ourselves with many different things, but only You can satisfy us. May we look to You for sustenance. Amen.
What do you look for to fill your life?
