I need to constantly remind myself to not worry about my limitations of time but have faith in the God who transcends time and has already gone before me.
Deuteronomy 9:1-29
Reference: v.3a But be assured today that the Lord your God is the one who goes across ahead of you like a devouring fire. (NIV Bible)
Explore: My daughter hates being bound by time. When she has to get up in the morning she wishes that time would slow down so she could sleep in some more. When she is in the bathroom she wishes that time would stand still so she could spend more time in there. On the other hand, when she is watching a TV show, a movie or reading a book she wishes that time would speed up so she would know what happens next. I've lost count of the number of times she has tried to drill me for information on a show or a book that I have seen before. And I just add to her frustration by saying, "Just keep watching/reading, you'll find out soon." Time can seem like such a limitation!
Application: God is not bound by time or place. While we can find time as limiting, God is not restricted by the same restraints. He was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be; He knew us long before we were even formed in our mother's womb; He is not bound by minutes, hours and days. And I find great comfort in this knowledge. The last couple of weeks I have felt so under-qualified for actions I've had to take in ministry. I've felt out of my depth and working outside my strengths. It is during this time that I have come to rely not on my own strengths but on God's strength. God knows the future for our church, and I only want to fulfil God's will. And so I need to constantly remind myself to not worry about my limitations of time but have faith in the God who transcends time and has already gone before me.
Prayer: Lord, in our time structured world it is hard for us to comprehend that You are above it all. Thank you for knowing my past, thank you for loving me now and thank you for being committed to my future. Amen.
When do you find time as a great limitation? When have you had to rely on God and not on your own capabilities?
