He had been blind for over 4 years
Reference: So he replied to the messengers, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. (Luke 7:22 NIV)
Explore: On a recent trip to Tanzania, I was fortunate enough to witness the amazing results of a cataract surgery.
Omari was in his 50s. He had been blind for over 4 years. His vision had become so impaired that his family no longer let him work in their fields as he would pull out the produce rather than the weeds.
Omari became confined to his home and totally reliant on his family to feed him and even walk him to the bathroom. They could not afford to get any medical help for him.
However, his family found out about a hospital that CBM partners with and performs cataract operations in. Omari travelled for a whole day to be at the hospital and we were fortunate to reunite with Omari the day after his operation.
Omari sat on the hospital bed with a patch over the eye they had operated on. As soon as the nurse removed the patch and wiped the eye Omari could tell his vision had improved.
He started saying everything he could see. He told me I had a bag over my shoulder, I was wearing a watch on my left hand and someone was holding up 5 fingers in front of his face.
Omari was so excited he could see again. In fact, he was so excited he leapt off his hospital bed and started jumping up and down.
This man was given a new lease of life. He felt he had experienced a miracle to be taken from blindness to sight in just 24 hours.
Application: There are many modern day miracles still happening in our world. Often we put them down to coincidence or fate or scientific advancement, but all good things come from God.
He is worthy to be acknowledged and praised for the might of His power and strength. Even what He moves through people’s knowledge and actions, He is still noticeable.
John’s disciples had to ask Jesus whether He was the Messiah. Jesus instructed them to observe His actions and make their decision from there.
Let’s keep an eye out for God’s actions and be ready to acknowledge Him in all the goodness of our lives.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for gifting people with such medical ability and giving them the call to help the poorest of the poor. May we acknowledge You in the goodness that we see today. Amen.
Where have you seen God’s goodness in the last 24 hours?
