Blessing From Sacrifice

They were some of the best times of my life.

Luke 1:5-25

Reference: He (Zechariah) was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense. (‭Luke‬ ‭1‬:‭9‬ NIV)

Explore: From my late teens and into my twenties I served on beach missions and camps. I would spend part of my holidays with a group of Christians playing games, performing drama and doing Bible studies for young kids.

A great deal of planning would go into these events and you would often have to pay for your own accommodation and food. But they were some of the best times of my life.

Not only was I having a ball with like minded Christians, but I found my own faith journey was greatly impacted. What started out as some sacrificial giving ended up being more of a blessing.

Application: This is often the case when it comes to our walk with God. We start by following Christ’s example and we end up getting so much more out of it for ourselves.

It seems this has been happening for a while. Zechariah was obedient in his service to God. He left his home for a period of time to serve at the temple but it was during this time of service that he received a message from God.

So often we sit in our rooms or in the congregation and wonder why God doesn’t speak to us. Yet, if we actually start acting out our faith, that’s when we have closer encounters with who God is.

It is these times that bring direction, hope and clarity.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for being willing to use us. We may not have it all together, but there are many things we can do to proclaim Your name. Amen.

How are you serving God?
