BFFs

Needless to say, I don’t remember life without Corrina in it, and the bond we have together is incredibly special.

Exodus 28:1-43

Explore: Corrina was my BFF – my Best Friend Forever. Apparently we met out in the raging social networks at the ripe old age of two. We did EVERYTHING together.

If Corrina wasn’t at my house, then I was on the way to hers. We rode our dragster bikes around everywhere and lost count of how many sleepovers we shared. Needless to say, I don’t remember life without Corrina in it, and the bond we have together is incredibly special.

When we were about 10 years old we did what all best friends did to commemorate their relationship… we bought a Best Friends Forever necklace. This was a love heart with the words ‘Best Friends Forever’ written within the heart and it was cut in two vertically down the middle so that we could each wear a half on a chain around our neck.

This necklace did not tell us anything we didn’t already know, it did not make our friendship stronger or help it to last longer. The BFF necklace was a reminder of the relationship that we did have and a public display of the thoughts we had for each other.

Application: The symbolism of Aaron’s breastpiece reminded me of my BFF necklace.  Just like Corrina and I would wear our jewellery as a symbol of our dedication to each other, so too, did Aaron wear something very symbolic around his chest.

The breastpiece was a symbol of Aaron bringing all of the tribes of Israel before the Lord and making heartfelt decisions on behalf of them. If Aaron did not wear the breastpiece it doesn’t mean that he would have been a terrible leader. But just like my BFF necklace, it was a symbolic reminder of that which was considered to be highly important.

Prayer: Lord, it is good for us to have symbolic reminders of the important things in our lives. May we be daily reminded of how important you are to us. Amen.

What are some special symbolic things in your life?
