If you dig a little deeper into Wilberforce’s life, however, you will find some other remarkable changes he made.
Reference: He rebuilt Upper Beth Horon and Lower Beth Horon as fortified cities, with walls and with gates and bars, (2 Chronicles 8:5 NIV)
Explore: If anyone knows anything about William Wilberforce the first thing to come to mind is the abolishment of human slavery. It took him many years to fight for, but his accomplishments changed history.
If you dig a little deeper into Wilberforce’s life, however, you will find some other remarkable changes he made. In his life time he was a champion for missionary work in India, workers rights in Britain, and the Society for the Prevention of the Cruelty to Animals.
While he was known most for his work against slavery, his passion for justice flowed into every part of his life and he worked hard in many areas for it.
Application: When I think of Solomon, I think of his wisdom and that he built the temple for God. But it seems that he did many other things too.
He was so dedicated in his work for God that he wasn’t just satisfied with a few accomplishments, but worked hard towards building God’s nation in many different ways, just like Wilberforce.
It’s good to work towards one major goal, but we need to live in such a way that every aspect of our lives shows the same passion as to which we’re working towards our key goal. If we show integrity in everything we do, then it doesn’t matter what our main goal is, we will be remembered fondly for many great things.
Prayer: Lord, no matter what our goals may be, may we strive to show Your love in everything we do. Amen.
What would you like to be remembered for?
