Best Facebook Post EVER

It was so lovely to see posts from people in all walks of my life, but one of my favourites was from a girl called Sheron.

Ecclesiastes 11:1-10

Reference: v.6 Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well. (TNIV Bible)

Explore: I recently had a birthday and was overwhelmed by all the ‘Happy Birthday’ comments on my Facebook page. It was so lovely to see posts from people in all walks of my life, but one of my favourites was from a girl called Sheron.  While Sheron is now at university, I knew her as a tiny grade five student who started attending our church’s girls club.  I had started this girls club as a positive way to connect the girls in the local community to our church. In the end, 80% of the girls were from outside the church and Sheron was one of our regular attenders.  I have not seen Sheron since she left primary school many years ago, but we have since become Facebook friends and had a couple of short conversations.  This birthday conversation was the best one yet…

Sheron: Happy Birthday Linda!! I hope you’re having a beautiful day of celebration today! And trip down memory lane: You totally taught me how to braid hair and steam my face with hot water and a towel over my head at “babes” 10 years ago hahaha

Linda: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA. Wow, I’m glad that I was responsible for all the IMPORTANT things in your life then!!!!!! Hehehehehe. What a classic. Best birthday present ever! How are you going?

Sheron: Actually… you were… because after babes, I thought “youth group” was really fun. And it was because of that, I got tricked into going to church without knowing that youth group was connected to church at all HAHAHA.. I’m now studying theology at Tabor and listening to your beautiful voice on light.fm YEEEP… thank you for planting small seeds in my little life! Definitely reaping in the harvest now =D

Application: This was a huge reminder to me that we never know when our work is going to pay off.  The girls group leaders and I worked diligently to create a fun program for these young girls, but we never knew the impact it would have.  Even if Sheron is the only girl who came to Christ through the seeds that we have sown, then all the planning meetings, screaming girls and Monday nights out were totally worth it.  We never know what is going to succeed, and so we need to work at all things diligently and allow God to grow the seeds that we sow.

Prayer: Lord God, we pray for all the people who come into our lives.  Help us to be diligent with showing your love to each person as we never know when those seeds will start to sprout. Amen.

Think of the people who are crossing your path in this season. What kind of seeds are you spreading in their lives?
