Before You Complain

I recently saw this sign on a sporting field fence: Before You Complain… Have You Volunteered Yet?

To begin with I chuckled. What a good sign! It really puts the ball back in the court of those who are whinging.

But then I was a little saddened. Isn’t it a shame that so many people have complained that a committee have decided to place a sign up on the fence?! How many complaints did someone have to put up with before they put up this sign?

I’d love to put this sign up at church, but I’m not sure it would be considered very pastoral! But so often it is the people with the biggest opinions who are the least active.

What a great reminder to watch what we say and act before we whinge.

Jesus was a great example of this. He spoke many words to many people but His actions have reverberated throughout history.

He had every right to whinge about how bad His situation was, how poorly the religious leaders had represented God and how hard His life was compared to Heaven! But He didn’t. Instead, He acted out how we should all live in the hope we would learn from Him.

Let’s not let Jesus’ life go to waste. Learn what He did so you can follow.

Lord, thank You for the ultimate example You gave us. May we stop before we start complaining and ask ourselves what we can DO to be a part of the solution. Amen.

What do you find yourself whinging about? What can you do to start solving it?
