As far as my basketball training went… I think my coach just gave up!

Explore: Ball coordination skills has never been something that has come easily to me.
Netball drills were created to assist my throwing accuracy, the solo tennis practice against the brick wall was to increase my racquet positioning, and as far as my basketball training went… I think my coach just gave up!
For some crazy reason, five years after I had finished all my sport competitions, I decided it would be great for my children’s ministry work to learn juggling. Just when I was struggling with one ball, I decide to add an extra two into the mix.
I read up on all the tips, bought the perfect looking juggling balls you could ever find, and started my attempt. I must say that it was a great work out as I was constantly chasing after and bending over to pick up the flying balls.
I estimate that it took a good 12 hours of practicing before I could keep the three balls in the air for over 10 seconds! But, once I had it, I was so proud I would juggle at every opportunity.
While the children in our church were impressed and entertained, the adults were just shocked that I had mastered such a tricky technique.
Application: There are certainly some skills that come naturally to us while others need a lot more work. If we really want to accomplish something then it is worth putting the time and effort into our practice.
After the Israelites had settled in the Promised Land they started to put a lot of time and effort into certain skills. Unfortunately, these were not activities that honored God, in fact they really angered Him.
We can become just as proficient in negative actions as we can in positive ones. However, God does not endorse or bless the destructive path that we may choose to take.
He sent Isaiah to the people to warn them about their destructive behaviour. Chapter 5 explains that God did everything to prepare the perfect situation for the Israelites, and yet, they chose to go against what was best for them.
God has prepared the best for each of us. He has created us and blessed us with so much. It’s up to us as to how we choose to live out the life He’s offered us.
Prayer: Lord, we may not always feel like we’re in the Promised Land, but we are still the recipients of so many of Your blessings. May we not waste your gifts by using them for a negative purpose, but may we use them to bring hope and joy to Your world. Amen.
What are your gifts? How can they be used to bless God?
